...is one of my favorite statements that someone put on their connection card this week. So great, right? But, if we are honest with ourselves, that's not really how we often view spending time with God, is it?
Even as I type this words this morning, I am hitting the "snooze" button on the calender alarm that I have set on my computer. You see, every Tuesday morning from 8 to 9:30 am, I have committed to going on a date with God.
Other days of the week I will read, pray, journal at the office, in my house, etc., but, on Tuesday, I go to Johnson Park. I walk along the Raritan River across from New Brunswick and spend some real quality time with Jesus (below is a pic I found on-line from the very spot I go to :) ). Each week, it really helps reorient my heart to what God is talking to me about. BUT...
...the reality is, folks, that life often gets in the way. Kids get sick, meetings get changed, classes need to be attended, emergencies pop-up, and it is SO easy to not spend that time with God.
BUT, canceled dates aren't the recipe for a life-giving relationship with Jesus. Nope. They are a recipe for creating distance, misunderstanding and for allowing doubt to creep in. That's right.
SO, that is why these words on a connection card this week are my faves... What a great reminder for each of us (myself included) to slow down and make sure that we have time for going on a date with God!
Enjoy the time together -- pastor mikey:)
